Students were “on station” at specific “Festival” locations and provided articulate and engaging discussions about their work, specific information related to project roles and responsibilities, overall project planning and organization details, and lessons learned from the experience. In addition, some students also explained the nature of creative and innovative partnerships and collaborations with “clients” that involved teamwork, determining client needs, design concept ideas, interactive thinking, synthesis and intentionality, drafts and models, schedules and timelines, and finished product or model.

Some of the exhibits and projects related to HTHSCV/community collaborations and partnerships included:

-The Restoring Dignity/Empathy Project- North Park Area

-The Monarch School/HTHSCV Project

-Tiny Homes Project - San Diego

-Community Re-development El Cajon Blvd.- Incubator Business Project

-The Veterans Project - San Diego Area

-San Diego International Airport New Terminal 1 Design Project

-The “HTHSCV & HTHElemS – MARS Yard Project

-The Paradise Hills Elementary School Community Mural

Lastly, student work and projects reflected a high degree of research proficiencies associated with design thinking and learning. Students accomplished this by incorporating many of the following skills in their work:

-ethnographic research and case study analysis

-qualitative and quantitative research methods

-community dialogues, interviews and discussions, and data collection

-statistical analysis and interpretation

-proposal designs for entrepreneurial enterprises

-architectural renderings and models

-working with variety of art materials (oil, watercolor, graphic and color pencil, etc.)

-art illustration techniques and multi-media photographic imagery technology;

-digital art work 3-D imagery, project design and product development

-laser print projects and models

-advanced technology organizational apps, CAD design and models

-film making and editing

-set design and construction; use of wood working and power tool equipment

-story-telling book design and illustration

-Socratic teaching/seminar methods and techniques

Once again these are highlights of the Festival del Sol --- an amazing experience that celebrates the creative and innovative talent of HTHSCV students. Truly a memorable event!
